Here we are two weeks into 2018! Let’s go over how one travels to the South Pacific destinations in planning for a year of travel in 2018!

The South Pacific is vast! When I have sailed across the South Pacific it took me years, but then I just stopped a lot! 🙂

Let’s review the time to each of the main South Pacific island destinations, Australia, and New Zealand:

Tahiti: Los Angeles to Papeete, Tahiti: 8 Hours Non-stop / On this side of the International Date Line / Located due south of the Hawaiian Islands / The Tahitian islands are approximately as far south in the South Pacific below the Equator as the Hawaiian islands are far north above the Equator in the North Pacific / Airlines: Air Tahiti Nui and Air France

NEW: From October 30, 2018 United will begin flying from San Francisco three times a week to Papeete. United has announced they will be using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Also, French Blue will also begin service from San Francisco to Papeete in April although flights have not yet been designated due to waiting for authorization from Tahiti.

Cook Islands: Los Angeles to Avarua, Rarotonga, Cook Islands : 9 Hours Non-stop / On this side of the International Date Line / Approximately 600 miles West-South West of Bora Bora in French Polynesia (Tahiti) / Airlines: Air New Zealand from LAX and Air Tahiti from Papeete, Tahiti

Fiji: Los Angeles to Nadi, Fiji: 10 Hours Non-stop / Just on the other side of the International Date Line / Western South Pacific, north of New Zealand / Airlines: Fiji Airways

New Zealand: Los Angeles to Auckland, New Zealand: 13 Hours Non-stop / On the other side of the International Date Line / West and Southern South Pacific / Airlines: Air New Zealand and Hawaiian Airlines from Hawaii

Australia: Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia: 15 Hours Non-stop / On the other side of the International Date Line / Western South Pacific / Airlines: Qantas, Delta, Virgin Australia, Delta, and United

I always recommend traveling the airline(s) of the country to which you are flying. This makes your trip begin at the moment of boarding your international flight!

Enjoy your week!
